Man, is there anyone at this site that’s easy to follow with links? Swiss knocked it out of the park… as usual. Happy Veteran’s Day to those who served.
This may be a perfectly legitimate ruling in keeping with standard practices, but I have no earthly idea what actually happened based on this article.
Setting unarmed people on fire is not a good look for Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters.
Well this is pretty cool.
Look, something GenXers and their younger siblings can agree on: it’s all the old people’s fault.
Look at Robin Hood over here. I’m gonna guess from the quality of the description and the fact that the suspect was “known to the victims” that the attacker might have been also homeless. Maybe CA should require a verified domicile before selling archery equipment.

Apr 9, 2018 – “No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife,” Sadiq Khan said. … NYC, London Mayor Sadiq Khan calls for sharper knife control.

[Foghorn Leghhorn voice]
Nice guy, but sharp as a marble.
I carried a knife in London, but it was twenty years ago. I shudder to think what would have happened if I’d done it in today’s London.
It depends. If cops think you look like a yoof in a gang, or just someone who is easy to fuck with, they might search you, but otherwise if it’s just in your pocket or generally out of sight I don’t suppose anything would happen. When I was younger I got stopped and searched for drugs multiple times by cops prospecting with the ol’ four-legged search warrant (not that warrants are necessary for such searches here in the UK), but even then, fortunately there was no pat-down meaning no knife found had I been carrying one. I don’t mean to be an apologist for Khaaaaaaannnn! or the ridiculous legislation, far from it, but it seems to come down to how the police enforce it.
On the other hand, if you ended up using it in self-defense, even a blade that is legal under current (very restrictive) legislation, you would feel the full force of the law, and likely serve several years of a long sentence, so there is that.

Gen X should go back to doing what they’re good at, hiding in the shadows and letting the boomers and millennials take potshots at each other. This inter generational bitching is as annoying as it is timeless.

My favorite joke is to check my pockets, look around myself, then get on the floor and search intently.
When people ask me what I’m doing, I say “I’m looking for a fuck to give, but I think I’m all out.”
Except that the millennials are going to take the reins of power directly from the Boomers.
They don’t have to. Gen X could do something, and many gen Xers will. There is no law that they have to get passed over, they aren’t forced to be the generational equivalent of prince Charles. But for the many that do something, many more will endlessly bitch about how terrible the two generations around them are though in a collectivist circle jerk without lifting a finger themselves.

meh, there really hasn’t been any good music since 1985 or so. The oldest millenials were just then reaching 21. I don’t think they can claim the amazing music from 1963-1985 as theirs. Even the boomers can’t claim all of it.
Doo-Wop is the worst music ever made. I hate whatever generation is responsible for that abomination.
Ok, Boomer
This.
I’m perfectly happy to be the skipped-over generation.
I, for one, look forward to the multitudes of “OK, Boomer”/”OK, Snowflake” exchanges on social media.
Don’t worry, you’ll still get to weight in on pizza wars, sports teams fights, hell a virtually endless stream of pointless culture war bullshit with tribes randomly assigned by birthday or birth location.

Gabriela Barajas’ friends dragged her to the rally with Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The 19-year-old had never gone to a campaign event before, and she had no idea who she’d support in the Democratic primary. But by the time she left, she was with Sanders.
“I’m speechless right now,” she said as her friends bolted toward her with a freshly snapped selfie with Ocasio-Cortez in hand. “Seeing how passionate he is, how passionate she is, it just amazes me. … She’s inspirational to all Latinas, to all women.”
Story Continued Below
Ocasio-Cortez’s star power was put to the test in Middle America this weekend — and she and Sanders drew thousands of excited fans to three stops across Iowa. Audience members donned purple shirts emblazoned with the Bronx congresswoman’s name and shouted “I love you!” to her.
What are the odds the person who wrote this sneers patronizingly when she sees a MAGA hat?
Ocasio-Cortez’s reception in the first-in-the-nation caucus state also fueled hopes among her supporters that she will run for president herself in the not-so-distant future.
*BARF*
star power, fans?
Hollywood for ugly people indeed.
Like it or not, and I don’t, AOC has a certain kind of charisma and she’s going to a political force for some time whether she gets reelected or not. On the other hand, Sanders is a one foot in the grave old coot with terrible ideas so I can see why he glommed onto her.
You know who else had a certain kind of charisma?
Ted Bundy?
Cordelia from BTVS?

I don’t even know who/what that is.
Charisma Carpenter

AOC also has an ego that is constantly being stoked by the left. I look forward to a long series of ever more serious gaffes.
‘Star power’. Is that code for ‘Eats paint chips’?
I, for one, am happy to hear that Bernie is getting solid support from the younger Dems. He doesn’t have a chance in hell of getting the nomination so all that passion will go to waste next November when they don’t see him on the ballot. Just another big slice of socialists who will stay home.

If I were black and lived in San Francisco, I would carry a huge ass spear like Shaka Zulu. If anyone objected, I would just accuse them of being racist.
Shaka Zulu doesn’t feel for you.
Ain’t Nobody going to disagree with that.
“…a huge ass spear…”
They didnt have huge ass spears, or huge any kind of huge spears. Their spears were short hafted with long blades which gave them an advantage in close combat. Their spears were evolving into swords.
Well, then all the pictures of him are wrong.
The iklwa was a short stabbing spear 2 foot shaft, 1 foot blade, and Shaka is credited with introducing it at the same time he organized the Zulu into regiments, and introduced tactics similar to the phalanx. Shaka is a really interesting figure. His life gives insight into what the classical innovators were like. It is unfortunate for the Zulu that they started their march into a Golden Age of empire at the same time people who were in the Industrial Age were moving into the same region, otherwise Shaka might well have become an African Alexander.
STEVE SMITH HAVE HUGE ASS-SPEAR
It’s snowing like a bitch here. Still plenty of leaves on the trees but we’re getting 3-6 inches.
Hasn’t started in Columbus yet. Supposed to be on way though.
Central PA is supposed to get it as rain tomorrow, tapering into snow during the day. Lovely.
The snow is supposed to start here in NH tomorrow afternoon. I will probably work from home as I still have my summer tires on. I get my snow tires on Wednesday.
When I lived in central PA was when I started hating snow. I worked an apartment maintenance job and had to shovel certain parts of the complex when it snowed. After a storm dropping three feet, I spent all day shoveling. No thanks. Oh… I got a job in New England. I need a job. Shit.
I should probably go in for a rotation.
Sleet appears to be just now turning to snow in Dayton.
Well then we should get it in a half hour or so.
You know who else is getting 3-6 inches?

How about us who were born between the Boomers and the Xers?
1962-1969
there was nobody between the Gen Xers and Boomers
People on the cusp of the generational change can identify either way but in general will fall relatively cleanly into one generation or the other
Wasn’t there a “Me Generation” in there somewhere?
The “Me Generation” is another term for baby boomers. From wikipedia:
Those greedy fuckers took TWO generational nicknames??!?
Those greedy fuckers took TWO generational nicknames??!?
A “me” generation would, wouldn’t they?
That’s early gen x, Yusef.
That’s not how it works. Boomers ended 1964. Gen X started in 65.
But you’re not acknowledging how Ysuef Identifies! you monsters…
Doh!
Yusef.
I’m a gen O, 1963
My youngest brother was born in 63. He ruefully accepts that he is a boomer.
Well technically we are all gen O.
I once read an interesting article saying that the late Boomers (1960-64) could be identified by the Mary Tyler Moore Show, and they believed ‘they’re going to make it after all”. The article was much better than it sounds. Wonder if it would come up on a search engine, but I can’t even guess how to search for it.
We’re on the cusp, but technically boomers.
Same here (born in 1962), but I’ve always felt more of an affinity with Gen X.
Born in ’58, the spousal unit in ’62, but we both ID as Gen Xers — by the time we were able to go to Uni and then enter the workforce, all the Boomers ahead of us had already sucked all the oxygen out of the room. Opportunities were, shall we say, much scarcer than we were led to believe they would be.
Born in 57.
I’ve told people that being in the back half of the baby boom was like following a swarm of locusts. The front half of the boom ravaged everything.
But boomers are defined by the birth rate (the baby boom) not shared values.
Born in 1960, and you’re right, we got hosed by the older ones.
Just as we were becoming teenagers, and were ready for all the sex, drugs and rock n’ roll they’d been doing ahead of us, the older boomers instead turned the world into disco for awhile, which really sucked.
I got news for you, ’58 was the peak of the boom. Another ’58er.
But Yusef was born over a 7 year period.
I larfed!
Generations are the stupidest form of collectivization. They don’t share genes, and they don’t even share culture. All they share is some crappy pop music.
No they share more than that.
They share a set of key life experiences that define their lives.
In otherwords they have some level of shared environmental factors that influenced their development and those shared experiences tend to make similar traits express in the majority of the people who were at the same developmental stage when the events happened
A guy from San Francisco shares key life experiences with a gal from Shamrock Texas, or a Guy from the Bronx, or Nome, because they are roughly the same age? They share pop songs and cartoons. And they don’t even share those, because we define generations across more than a decade. I don’t know about you but almost all of my key life experiences happened when I was with groups of 5 or less, and weren’t shared beyond that.
I agree with Jarflax. It’s a slight step up from astrology. Sorry, not Adahn.

She’s getting exactly what she deserves. Life is funny like that at times.
I remember one date very well. She was fat, had a nose ring, and a dyed her hair a wacky color. She lived with her parents and had a ton of student loan debt. She also said she didn’t want to settle.
OK, let me know how that works outs for you.
I’ll date pretty much anybody. If nothing else, it makes for a funny story. I try not to judge books by their covers.
I would wager that she definitely isn’t going to settle for less than she wants. You have to get an offer first before you can settle. I’m probably twice her age and if I had to go wife shopping right now I’d be looking on this side of the Pacific.
I watched too much of that. Moving on.
I made up to 3 seconds after she started talking.
In this case, Trump had sued New York state and the House to preempt a new New York state law, called the TRUST Act. Congress hadn’t yet requested his state tax returns under the law.
The New York State Attorney General’s Office had argued that the case “plainly belongs in a New York court.”
I hate to say it, but I think the NYS AG is right.
Video footage taken by a bystander shows a man in a green shirt arguing with what appear to be pro-Hong Kong demonstrators — an exchange that seems to be winding down when the man starts to walk away. More angry words are exchanged and the man walks back. Then a masked man in black splashes a liquid on the green-shirted man and uses a lighter to ignite it. The man erupts in flames and the crowd scatters.
Yikes. That sounds like targeting the wrong people to me.
A WORLD War II plane flanked by two iconic Spitfires scattered 750,000 poppies over the famous White Cliffs of Dover this morning.

Evo Morales out
Bolivian President Evo Morales has resigned after nearly 14 years in power, amid turmoil following his disputed re-election last month.
The head of the army had called on him to go after protests over his election win.
Auditors found irregularities with the poll but Mr Morales said he had been the victim of a coup.
He said he was leaving to help protect families of political allies, after their homes were burned down.
Hey! I give the Mexican news around here!
What’s that got to do with Boliva?
Kidding. I’m sure a bigger POS will replace him.

My parents were the “silents” born during the war. The generation that studied, worked hard, and didn’t cause problems.
Slate? Elizabeth Warren’s “Medicare for All” Plan Is Kind of Unfair
But there are other, much more substantive reasons to dislike Warren’s plan. First, since she would tax companies based on how much they spend on insurance today, her proposal ends up penalizing firms that currently provide their employees more expensive and generous coverage. As the Tax Policy Center’s Howard Gleckman notes, this upside-down reward system is even worse for small businesses, since firms with fewer than 50 employees only have to pay the Medicare fee if they already offer insurance coverage. Those that don’t are off the hook entirely. Presumably, this carve-out is meant to keep mom-and-pop establishments from getting wiped out by new taxes they can’t afford, but it ends up punishing small business owners who offered coverage. Presumably, many of them would not be happy about it.
I hope that every small business that cuts coverage sends out explanation with a picture of Warren.
Sportsnet fires Don Cherry over ‘you people’ comment.
https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status/1193983701740376067
Bunch of spineless, faux-woke cunts.
Sportsnet is destroying hockey in Canada. The endless woke bullshit about professional women’s hockey–which can’t survive on its own so shouldn’t exist–the panty-twisting about violence in the game, the shitty camera angles, the idiots like Eric Francis on the Calgary telecasts. The list goes on and on. And now this. Don should have been put out to pasture a few years ago as he has a hard time getting what’s in his head out, but not for this.
I am torn. I want to cancel Sportsnet but I love hockey and can’t play anymore. I may have to suck it up and cancel on principle.
I can’t imagine that’s even close to the worst thing he’s ever said.
He should have retired by now. He is really old.
Yep. But given all he has done for minor hockey in communities across the country, for his employers, veterans, etc., this is the wrong way to do it. People were pissed when Sportsnet took over from the CBC (hockey is the only thing they did well) and TSN. They’re going to be really pissed now.
That thread is a dumpster fire. What did he actually say?
Don Cherry supposedly said this about immigrants:
Others claim that it was not about immigrants.
Let’s say it was. Considering the two biggest immigrant groups in Canada by origin are Indians and Chinese, it is a moronic statement. The representation of the British Raj by number of troops was double that of the Canadian contribution. Plus Gurkhas = “Your argument is irrelevant.”
As far as the Chinese, they are second only to the USSR as far as WW2 causalities go. And that’s not even considering the reason why many of them might be reluctant to wear a poppy even if they are patriotic Canadians.
The poppy is about WWI. Not that the Indian and Gurkha parts of your comment are any less true for the First WW.
The poppy started after the events of WWI, but the remembrance poppy as a symbol of Remembrance Day is no more limited to WWI than Memorial Day is limited to the Civil War. Particularly considering the fact that WW2 represented a much greater existential threat to the Canadian way-of-life than the prior war.
“As far as the Chinese, they are second only to the USSR as far as WW2 causalities go.”
Wow, I never knew that. Fighting the Japanese?
And each other. The civil war that Mao won overlapped WWII.
Kinda sorta. With the threat of an aggressive Japan, the Communists under Mao were willing to join with the Nationalists in a coalition government to fight the Japanese should they attack, but Chiang Kai-shek believed that the Communists had to be eliminated before he could focus on fighting the Japanese. Things got so bad that Kai-shek was actually kidnapped by one of his own aides-de-camp and forced to negotiate with Mao. Thus, the 2nd United Chinese Front was formed in response to the Marco Polo Bridge Incident in 1937. Mao ordered his troops to integrate into the Nationalist army (while keeping their regimental affiliations). Cooperation between the Nationalists and the Communists would last until 1940 when the Nationalists attacked the Communist New 4th Army. After the war, Mao and Kai-shek briefly continued their negotiations for a coalition government, but they quickly broke down and Mao declared the formation of the PRC in 1946. At that point, the 2nd phase of the Chinese Civil War began.
Yes. The Rape of Nanking is fairly well know, but the Battle of Shanghai was every bit as large as Stalingrad. I will say, I think that both the ROC and PRC figures of around 15-20 million civilian deaths include a lot of blaming the Japanese for deaths that are perhaps more properly laid at the feet of the Chinese government. The Nationalists, the Communists, and the local warlords certainly were not shy about spilling their own people’s blood, and it’s quite convenient to blame every death in that time period on the Japanese.
No offense, but just how much do you mean by “a lot” and what sources do you have to support that? I don’t disagree there was a lot of “blue on blue” within the 2nd Chinese United Front, I mentioned the New 4th Army Incident up thread, but from what I’ve read, historians are in general consensus that the IJA conducted the Chinese offensive with a particular brutality, as the majority of strategic decisions were actually made by ambitious field officers looking to impress the top brass back home who were generally more hands-on in the Pacific theater strategy.
I’m not entirely sure if this guy’s considered to be an unimpeachable source, but he cites figures of slightly under a million for the warlords, and over 10 million for the Nationalists.
https://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/20TH.HTM
The Japanese were every bit as brutal as the Nazis in their respective conquered territories. Perhaps even more so.
I just don’t buy that the CCP and the KMT, two militarized socialist revolutionary parties with the backing and training of the Soviets weren’t killing innocent people in job lots.
I don’t disagree that both the KMT and CCP have a lot of blood on their hands, but, getting into exact numbers, I wonder how he’s compiling the data there. For example, do deaths of Manchurian, Mongol (Mengjiang), and collaborationist Chinese troops count as war deaths or as democide, since before and after the war they were considered part of the larger body politic of the Republic of China?
Pikers! The Taiping did it better earlier.
Speaking of the Taiping Rebellion, the Siamese Haw Wars I mentioned down-thread were a spillover of that.
The Taiping Rebellion was one of the historical episodes I only know about from reading the Flashman novels. Kind of astonishing (and telling) that we don’t even learn the basic fact that such a war took place, when it killed as many people as the World Wars, and happened at the time of our Civil War.
The Qing Empire may have been completely rotten, corrupt and bureaucratized but it survived what was at the time the bloodiest Civil War in history, while simultaneously being invaded twice by the Europeans.
Oh never mind, Wikipedia is all over it.
??
I heard the whole thing. He’s a fucking meathead, but I’m not sure how that’s a fireable offense. Even if he was referring to immigrants.
Not like he’s the first sportscaster to step on his dick.
Yeh but as Praire Boy noted. Cherry is the face of grass roots hockey in Canada. There isn’t a more beloved figure. The guy does a lot for communities and he goes to bat for people in hockey. He’s unapologetically proud to be Canadian and loves America.
Hockey Night in Canada was a tradition and an institution and the wokesters simply killed it. I agree with PB. They suck. At least with Cherry we got authenticity.
Meanwhile we have an impetuous, imconoetent and ideological, PM who breaks ethics laws, dresses as Blackface, was embroiled in a groping and SNC-Lavalin scandals and acts like an all-round clown but he gets re-elected?
People are asshats if they hate Cherry but voted for this clown.
I really don’t care what he said. It was silly but free speech and all that. A couple of years ago Jeff Blair – a baseball writer – wrote an anti-Trump screed that bordered on TDS idiocy. But that was ok.
And then there’s Ron MaClean who apologized and doesn’t come out looking any better.
The thing is Sportsnet got their two minutes of woke and fired the guy. Now what? How do you replace DON FUCKEN CHERRY?
Are they gonna shove down our throats some CBC lame ass?
No, they will keep the name pattern, first name Don last name a fruit. That’s right, say hello to your new voice of Hockey, Don Lemon!
GAAAAAAHHH!!
Being an American, I never got the love for Cherry. And I thought he was something of an asshole for going after the concussion guys. His Eddy Shore shit doesn’t sit well with me.
But I agree that this seems like a shitty business decision for Sportsnet. This would have died down in a couple days.
I can see why he ruffles people the wrong way.
Jim Rome loves him.
And what a day to pick it.
Both men underwent surgery at a nearby hospital after being struck in their abdomens just before midnight along the San Francisco Bay Trail. One of the two men was also struck in his leg, police with the East Bay Regional Park District said.

Man tries to sign up for NH primary as “Epstein Didn’t Kill Himself.”
A man in New Hampshire attempted to register for the first-in-the-nation presidential primary on Friday using an interesting nickname: “Epstein Didn’t Kill Himself.”
Rod Webber is the man in question. His Twitter timeline suggests he’s something of an anarchist–though Webber insists he doesn’t identify with any political party and doesn’t “believe in isms.” He’s also a fairly well-known entity in New Hampshire primary politics due to his perennnial presence and undeniably outsized personality.

Meghan McCain: Nikki Haley Is Making a ‘Play’ to Replace Pence as Vice President
McCain said, “There have been rampant rumors on Capitol Hill that she’s vying for VP. I never believed that because it seemed a little ridiculous, especially since she quit the administration and she has tweeted some things that have been against the president. I have a whole new view on this now because this looks like somebody who is very interested in having a good relationship with the administration.”
She continued, “I think this is a VP play. Just going to say it. Maybe it’s uncomfortable just between us here in the room and the million people watching.”
Shut up, Meg. ///PeterGriffin
She’s positioning herself for 2024 would be my guess.
Haley or McCain (*shudders*)?
One something up for Haley!
Well, it wouldn’t be a bad move… Because I see VP Pence having a tough time in the 2024 elections; he’s just not likeable and has huge socon baggage. I see a possible VP Haley as having a real shot.
In the short term she would balance the 2020 ticket (and, how!) and completely fluster the SJW crowd who love to claim how racist and sexist this administration is.
They’ll have no problem claiming how racist and sexist this administration is, no matter who is in it.
Plenty of women/minorities in his employ attest to that.
True, that. But folks have eyes and can see things. Particularly if the Dems go full whitebread, ie Warren/Buttgieg.
Yeah. I always thought Pence was an idiotic move, but required of Trump if he wanted any cooperation with the DC denizens.
Someone like Mia Love before she got TDS would have been perfect.
I can’t even imagine the Republican turmoil post Trump. The party is fucked, fucked, fucked. The only thing going for them is how deflated the Democrats will be without Trump as well.
The only thing going for them is how deflated the Democrats will be without Trump as well.
Trump is the Dem’s Goldstein. Their furor and rage will immediately transfer to the new Repub nominee without skipping a beat.
The party is fucked, fucked, fucked.
I don’t think so. All the major players in the party made peace with Trump, so there’s not going to be any unusual infighting after he departs. If he departs on good terms, the next field will have to suck up to his fans, and if on bad terms everyone will just pretend it didn’t happen and take their licks in 2024 and rebound in 2026 once the electorate realizes yet again that they don’t actually like unified government.
I would contrast that with the post-Reagan era, when all candidates wished to burnish their conservative credentials by how few degrees separated them from their saint. I see NO ONE doing that in the post-Trump years.
But even if they put a million miles between themselves and Trump, that doesn’t automagically translate into the Repubs being fucked, does it?
Even the shitheads at Barstool Sports deserve a union
Up until a couple of weeks ago, I worked at Deadspin and was part of a digital media union including its sister sites. I wasn’t on the committee or in any special role, but I attended meetings like everyone else, witnessed its formation, and watched what workers can do when they band together. We argued for and earned benefits that tangibly improved the lives of employees, from its inception at what was formerly Gawker Media through its sale to the private equity vultures picking the bones of what’s now called G/O Media. Near the end of my time there, I saw firsthand that private equity is a relentless monstrosity that will consume anything it can, even if the property is profitable. A union might not be able to win every battle — no union can — but it sure as hell beats nothing.
Union or cult?
and watched what workers can do when they band together
Bankrupt the company?
Near the end of my time there, I saw firsthand that private equity is a relentless monstrosity that will consume anything it can, even if the property is profitable.
The cluelessness here is palpable. Gawker Media failed. It had to be sold to the private equity outfit for a sixth of what Univision paid for it. That wasn’t happening because the company was stunningly successful. That “monstrosity” was trying to save your job.

Lawyers representing Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) on Monday called on Hillary Clinton to retract her comments alleging that the 2020 presidential candidate was a favorite candidate of the Russians, accusing the 2016 Democratic nominee of defamation.
“Your statement is defamatory, and we demand that you retract it immediately,” Gabbard’s lawyer wrote in a letter, demanding that Clinton verbally retract the comments and post the retraction on Twitter.
Clinton’s spokesman declined to comment on the letter.
Clinton made the remarks last month on the “Campaign HQ” podcast.
“She’s the favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her, so far,” Clinton said, without referring to Gabbard by name.
Clinton also said “they” are grooming Gabbard to run as a third-party candidate against the eventual Democratic nominee.
A Clinton spokesman later said the former secretary of State had been referring to Republicans with the grooming comment.
Whatever, ma’am.
Clinton also said “they” are grooming Gabbard to run as a third-party candidate against the eventual Democratic nominee.
She’d also be running against the Republican nominee.
Because Gabbard would suck a lot more votes from Clinton than she would from Trump. Suck it, Dems. You want to win, run someone sane and likeable.
Whatever, ma’am.
I think you meant “OK, Boomer”.

As much as I hate both the Baby Boomers and the Millennials, I’ll have to side with the Boomers. For the key reason that they’ve learned the value of utter hypocrisy. For good, solid principles and values hypocrisy is a vice. But, if you’re an advocate of utter insanity, hypocrisy has the virtue of not being utterly suicidal. And the truth is, for all their sniping at one another the Baby Boomers and the Millennials mostly bought into the same deranged, utterly entitled set of premises about the world. Mostly, the Millennials’ complaint is that the Boomers haven’t been true to their shared values. But, that’s mostly because their shared values are insane and self-destructive.
I delight in the irony of the “Generation Gap”/”Don’t trust anyone over thirty” crowd getting beat up by the yutes.
Wild in the Streets (1968)
The boomers had several decades to figure out that what they were peddling was horseshit, but they taught it to their children anyways. I hate the millennials as much as anybody, hell I hate them more than most because I’m stuck being associated with the stereotype, but the older generation always has more blame in my eyes. In another few decades when the boomers have shuffled off this mortal coil and the idiot children raised by all of the 4 millennials that reproduced are ruining things, the millennials will be to blame, but right now the boomers are the nikki of extant generations.
In every generation, there are people who wise up as they age and people who don’t.

“people who wise up as they age and people who don’t.”
Wow, that’s good news. When do we start?
Historically, there is about a 20 difference between generations. So Boomer’s children should be GenXers. However, lots of the boomers became focused on personal fulfillment overall everything else (hence the Me generation). And Boomers started having kids much, much later in life. So while GenY should predominately be the grand children of boomers, they are the children of aging boomers.
Jordan Peterson interviewed Camile Paglia and they talked about children of young parents doing much better that the children of old parents. Old parents
“value” their kids too much and coddle them. Young parents “just don’t care” and their kids wind up much more independent.
I’m a boomer and my kids are GenX. My grandchildren are Gen Y. I assure, my kids grew up totally independent and their kids are too.
But overall, the primary problems associated with a large percent of Gen Y, is their parent fucked them up by trying to be too friendly with the kids.
I don’t really blame the Boomers. They were raised by the fucking morons who elected FDR 4 times despite the Depression he caused and sustained. The Boomers got stuck with a shitty war that asshole LBJ started and mismanaged. They even won the war, only for the commies in Congress to hand the victory back to their pals and make 50k dead Americans all for nothing.

Yup. Getting stuck with 15 trillion dollars in debt, countless unfounded liabilities, an imperial presidency, War on drugs and 20 years of continuous Foreign war does lead to a bleak future.
Don’t forget the high approval rating for Socialism. That’s gonna help tremendously.
It’s hard to teach your children socialism is wrong while you’re cashing SS checks and getting “Free” healthcare from Medicare.
Show both of those coming out of their first paychecks and ask if they remember volunteering for that.
Well I don’t remember a grass roots effort from boomers to repeal SS or Medicare. I do remember EMTALA and Gun control getting passed in 1986 under saint Reagan.
People voted for the Contract with America and for the Tea Party. Both times they were lied to.
It is lovely. You have two choices. The Democrats who will openly work to increase government power and spending. The Republicans who will say they support small government and less spending, but then vote for more government and spending.
Or you can protest by voting for a Libertarian who used to be a Republican but now talks like a Democrat.
“Hands off my Medicare”
Yeah, I was going to say, we’re getting what the Tea Party promised good and hard! All our coffers going to keeping senior citizens healthy with Medicare and safe from threats real and imagined with paramilitary, Bearcat driving LEOs of every stripe.

The debt is going to track with GDP for a while unless something big changes.
Think of it this way: we’re a year behind; we (everyone) owe one year’s wages. Annual deficits will add to that, and births and immigration will drive “growth” so that these two arcs track for a while.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, accused Trump of an “extortion scheme.”
“We have enough evidence from the depositions that we’ve done to warrant bringing this forward, evidence of an extortion scheme, using taxpayer dollars to ask a foreign government to investigate the president’s opponent,” he said on CBS News’s Face the Nation.
Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, accused Trump of “bribery or treason.”
“Because you have an elected official, the president, demanding action of a foreign country in this case, and providing something of value, which is the investigation, and he is withholding aid, which is that official act,” she said on ABC News’s This Week.
“And the Constitution is very clear: treason, bribery, or acts of omission. In this case, it’s clearly one of those,” she said.
Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) explained that “quid pro quo” is too complicated a concept.
“I have two problems with quid pro quo,” he said on NBC News’s Meet the Press. “Number one, when you’re trying to persuade the American people of something that is really pretty simple, which is that the president acted criminally and extorted in the way a mob boss would extort somebody, a vulnerable foreign country, it’s probably best not to use Latin words to explain it.”
He said the distinction between “quid pro quo” and a word like “extortion” will be critical during the public hearings.

using taxpayer dollars to ask a foreign government to investigate the president’s opponent
This bullshit is really driving me up the wall. So easy to refute but nobody refutes it other than to say……”no, no, no that is not what happened”. All that has to be said is, “ya, we wanted help into investigating corruption and interference in the 2016 election, the fact you the Democrats and most in the media are stating that corruption investigation would lead to Joe and Hunter Biden, the Obama administration and the Clinton Campaign is not the Presidents fault.” It drives me crazy that Swallwell, Schiff, and all others who claim opening a corruption investigation would lead to Biden are insinuating Biden is corrupt and they need to be called on it every time they mention it. If you did nothing wrong why would you fear an investigation amirite? Aren’t we told that every time they infringe on our rights?
And wtf is Swallowswell doing on the intelligence committee?
Demonstrating that the committee has reached peak bureaucracy. The same state of affairs that leads to the UN Human Rights Council including Saudi Arabia, China, and Cuba at the same time (as it did until this year).

Man Wears Sweatshirt Just In Case Wife Gets Cold
“If the weather looks a little nippy, I plan ahead and wear a sweatshirt,” Conger said. “That way, when the wind picks up, I can take off my sweatshirt and give it to my shivering wife, who didn’t plan ahead at all.”
“Yeah, then I’m a little cold myself, but hey. I get to be the hero.”
The couple carries out this ritual everywhere they go, whether it’s on a walk through the park, at a church service, or during a movie. “About five minutes into Doctor Sleep this weekend I went ahead and just took my hoodie off and handed it to her without even looking,” Conger said. “We have this telepathic connection going now.”
I wouldn’t go that far, but my wife does the same stuff. Wearing fashionable shoes rather than sneakers when we know we’ll be walking. Not taking a rain jacket. Etc.

Sounds like my wife. She has never been disappointed if she just brings the dang jacket.
I believe she would freeze to death on the surface of the sun if she weren’t in direct sunlight.

Uffda. That story about e-cigs? A walk in the park compared to this story about a blue ribbon commission in Minnesoda. Their job is to find a way to cut $100M from a health care budget of $18B.
By the way, this is the same department (DHS) in Minnesoda that overpaid two tribes $29M for opioid treatments. There is no way you could ever trim that amount of money.
Ooops, here is another $150M that could have been saved if the Minnesoda DHS wasn’t up to its eyeballs in graft and incompetence.
Why do you hate some of the most vulnerable populations in the state?
$9k pp served.
? Not sure I follow your math. The way I see it the budget of $18B is spent on $1.1M which is $16K/person. And your task is to take away $90/year from each of those poor unfortunate souls.
It’s a biannual budget. So divide in half.
Speaking of per person calculations- I was looking at the property tax bill and it’s darn near the point where I’d be paying for my share of a kid’s yearly tuition if I sent then to a private school or paid for the 1/20-1/30 share of a teacher in the public school. Yet the schools are so broke they can’t maintain their buildings so they just run down and beg for bond money to build/rebuild new ones.
Gotcha. That makes sense. But then you’d only need to take $50 from the tin cup of that poor bastard who relies on that money. How would they ever survive missing out on $4/mo for the next 2 years?

Omar, D-Minn., tweeted her thoughts on King, R-N.Y., shortly after the powerful 14-term congressman who once chaired the House Committee on Homeland Security, announced Monday he will not seek reelection in 2020.

Good news for Brexit (no, really):
https://www.bbc.com/news/election-2019-50377396
Brexit Party won’t stand in Tory seats so the vote won’t be split.
And the Tory Remainers will undercut any possible exit.
The Tory Remainers (at least those who undermined the Halloween exit) have been kicked out of the party. They still hold their seats at the moment, but will not be on the lists for the election and so will be cleaned out. Hence why the Brexit Party is willing to stand down against the Tories: Boris has shown sufficient commitment to it to convince Farage he’s serious.
Ah, i missed that. Good
Boris needs to back out of the precincts (or whatever the Limeys call them) where the Brexit Party is outpolling his guy/gal. Split votes are split votes. Might be able to pick off a few Labourista seats that way.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), one of the top Democratic presidential hopefuls, is proposing a plan to expand Veterans Affairs services and modernize facilities, according to an agenda he released Monday.
Sanders pledges to fill 50,000 job vacancies at the VA in his first year in office and ensure that those with military service in every state and territory have access to full health care services.
The push for expanded health care access includes a plan to “greatly expand access” to mental health and suicide prevention services.
He also proposes investing $62 billion in funding for VA infrastructure to repair and modernize facilities.
The agenda also includes a plan to pledge to “support VA employees” by enforcing strong whistleblower protection, ending anti-union “attacks” and offering “other incentives that reward high-quality work” such as reasonable staffing ratios and compensation competitive with the private sector.
——-
“As a nation, we have a moral obligation to provide the best quality care to those who put their lives on the line to defend us,” Sanders said in a statement. “Just as planes and tanks and guns are a cost of war, so is taking care of the men and women who we sent off to fight the wars.”
Sanders’s plan was released a week after fellow leading 2020 progressive candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) announced her plan aimed at addressing veteran suicide rates and mental health.
Sanders has been consistently polling near the top of the Democratic field. In a RealClearPolitics average of polls, he is in third place with 17.6 percent of the vote.

Because “government ownership” is not the point. The point is ownership by the people as a whole. This might occur through the government, but if so, it has to be a specific kind of government, namely a government that is democratic. There would be no point to government control if it didn’t actually empower the population as a whole. You might as well have decisions in the hands of unaccountable private corporations as an unaccountable government. The reason socialists want to see PG&E brought under state control is that they believe that under private control, it is being operated in the interests of its shareholders, whereas under state control, it will be operated in the interests of the entire population of California.

What part of “public utility” don’t you morons understand?

California governor Gavin Newsom made headlines by slamming the company for the “scale and scope” of the shutoffs. He made clear that he’s not against de-energizing the grid to minimize wildfire risk. Indeed, he noted that many lives were lost because of PG&E’s failure to do exactly that in the Paradise area last year. Even so, there’s a world of difference between small-scale, surgically targeted shutoffs and simply telling millions of people that they’d have to go without power for several days on end. If a company like PG&E is going to be given a monopoly and allowed to extract profits from a captive customer base, it has a responsibility to provide energy whenever those customers need it, whenever this is at all possible.

I had a Kona Brown that was decent. All restaurants soon to be Taco Bell.
Finishing up the day on Swan Island and slipping uphill for a beer at Widmer’s was a favorite sequence early in my career.
Freightliner?
yup
Wtf kind of first name is “Gage”?
You misspelled her name SFW surprisingly
It’s apparently a guys name. For millennials/post millennials.
A little research shows she was in the world acclaimed 2002 film “Weapons of Ass Destruction”.
Some porn title parodies are good for a sensible chuckle:
Good Will Humping
Breast Side Story
On Golden Blonde
The Good, The Bad, and the Horny
Whore-ah! Whore-ah! Whore-ah!
Shaving Ryan’s Privates
“Driving Miss Daisy.”
Really, it’s already perfect.
“Pulp Friction”
Edward Penishands
Miracle on 69th Street
Pretty Shitty Gang Bang.
Come to think of it, they might’ve already done that one as a porn flick.
Her great triumph was with Aurora Snow in Trained Teens of the same year.
A fictional one?
Wasn’t that the little boy’s name in pet semetary?
Ah! That’s probably what popularized it.
No way.
It was It was this guy.
They’re too young for their parent to have watched that.
(My first lunch pail was Emergency!)
All I know about Pet Semetary is the South Park parody of the old farmer:

Great book.
I used to know a guy named Seven.
Why does the universe keep re-arranging itself to bring my crappy creative writing to life?
At least they have some new chants.
Bitter Stanford Protesters Want to Shut Down Ben Shapiro for No Reason
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF4fH9w5OSI
I don’t like fast talking neocons either but they ought to let him speak.
Are these far-leftists who don’t like Shapiro because he is a Jew or are they nationalist-populist “Nickers” who don’t like Shapiro because he is a Jew?
Round and round we go, where we’ll stop nobody knows, but I bet it goes badly for the ((( Jews))).
I try to point this out when people start in with the Molon Labe, civil war 2 talk but once you throw away the civil society none of the teams that play in the Revolutionary Championship Series are fighting for more liberty and rights.
+1 political horseshoe
The poppy-drop is really fucking cool. I’m really glad there are people out there that keep those old airplanes going. It’s got to be ungodly expensive.
There’s a place in New York state called Old Rheinbeck Aerodrome. It was started by a guy in who found a bunch of WW1 fighter planes in a Long Island warehouse. He restored the planes and put on kick ass air shows, which he flew in. I saw one when I was a kid.

I saw the CAF back when it was the Confederate Air Force.
Zeros come over the house once a year for some reason.
I saw a kickass B17 this summer land at Millington.
They changed the name?! What a bunch of candy-ass, Mickey Mouse, chickenshit!
“Commemorative Air Force”?! Jesus H Tap-dancing Christ!
There was kerfuffle a while back when the band Confederate Railroad got banned from a state fair because of their name.
I fully expect to see a day when Confederate flags are banned from history textbooks.
“Miss Hoover? What’s this thin oak tag covering up this part of the battle painting?”
“Don’t touch that, Ralph!”
To be fair, flags are historical. The CSA never had an air force, but the Union could have had an elephant calvary if Lincoln wasn’t such a stick-in-the-mud.
They could have had repeating rifles too if that jackass James Wolfe Ripley hadn’t put the kibosh on it, against Lincoln’s order.
There was a battle near where I grew up where the Union got massacred because their rifles were defective.
The Confederacy ran out of everything except ammo and weapons.
and they botched thecamel experiments
Every day I bemoan not having been born in the Steampunk timeline.
I remember a picture of Siamese troops during the Haw Wars with Gatling guns mounted on elephants. That combine with a camel-mounted light infantry would have made history a lot cooler.
+1 Zamburak
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zamburak
***
Zamburak (Persian: زمبورک), is a military unit, literally meaning wasp, was a specialized form of self-propelled artillery from the early modern period. The operator of a zamburak is known as a zamburakchi. The weapon was used by the gunpowder empires, especially the Iranian empires of the Safavid dynasty and Afsharid dynasty, due to the ruggedness of the Iranian Plateau, which made typical transportation of heavy cannons problematic.
The zamburak became a deadly weapon in the 18th century. The Pashtuns used it to deadly effect in the Battle of Gulnabad, routing a numerically superior imperial Safavid army.

Those guns appear positioned to shoot the driver’s head off.
Overkill for keeping them in line.
@UCS
I noticed that too. I wonder how they worked. Maybe you only shot aft, starboard, and port?
Super cool. I’ve gone to Oshkosh a bunch of times, and the old planes are my favorite part.
There were two big WW1 replica/recreation fly-ins in 92 and 94, Guntersville, Alabama. Very impressive to see the first warplanes flying.
“Wait, we strapped a fan to the most powerful engine we could fit in a canvas and balsa wood frame, and it’s not just falling out of the sky?”
A song and a quote for today:
Over the Hills and Far Away
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fy3tSim3to
“Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn’t even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.” -Heraclitus
If you’re going to host a webcast conference call, practice in a front a mirror first. Spinning in your chair while bobbling your head gets your window minimized and muted.
You’re lucky the software can’t tell you’re muting the window.
Webcams are for porn. I don’t need to see people to talk to them.
