Report on the MSR: This was made NY legal by “permanently” attaching the magazine and loading this thing through the ejection port. So far, I’ve had five double-feeds during the first hundred rounds. I don’t know if that’s because of the reloading technique, or if it’s inherent to the gun. It’s pretty accurate so far, though I only spent the time getting it sighted in at 50 yds.
Now I feel like I need one NYS compliant via the chopped pistol grip, and one made legal(-ish?) by the addition of a bolt catch. As long as I’m shooting from a bench or pron, the pistol grip doesn’t add much.

Actually, no. I did follow the manual’s recommendation for breaking it in (thank Bob I have a chrome lined barrel not a stainless one, the recommended break in for those is redick.) It was weeping lubricant from various places and also burning it off.
Supposedly it’s broken in now, so we’ll see how much troubleshooting I’ll need to do.
Take the bolt apart. It’s simple. Lube properly. Reassemble.
Oh yes, taking apart guns satisfies the inner “five year old who has found a screwdriver” impulse.

Last night someone made a bit of a snark about why young people are swayed by socialism and it hit me. Of course they are. They have’nt seen the effects of communism that we saw. The USSR was gone before most of them were born. For a few generations we have been saying and expecting our children to be better off than we were. A decade ago we began bemoaning that that would no longer be the case and that in fact they may be worse off. In some ways it is true but in the minds of the young who didn’t actually experience the life we had before them that might be magnified. We have also been raising scads of kids with the ‘everybody gets a trophy’ mentality on top of that. So I think there are more factors than just ‘I didn’t get what I wanted on a silver platter so daddy government needs to step in’ (which was the accurate comment, I don’t remember who) attitude. A lot of factors contributed to that attitude and coupled with economic realities and lack of experience it seems pretty clear to me how we got here. A pretty convincing argument could be made that we failed them in ways that made the allure of socialism inevitable.

I think it has more to do with older generations living longer, hoarding wealth and not giving up the reins of power, both in government and business. Technology has also had a big part in job destruction. Younger generations are competing against more people in a smaller job market, while competing over fewer resources against more competitors than previous generations. That’s not even counting the job/resources pressures from illegal aliens.
I could see some kid getting kicked out of his house at 19, where he learned nothing, staring down a 15$/hr job and $1,000/month rent and just saying “Marx is my new best friend!”

Me: Then either work your way into management or be a developer.
Them: But programming looks hard, I want something that’s easy and to make a lot of money.

They aren’t succeeding because they are unwilling to do hard work. They’ve been taught all of their life that they deserve a trophy too. When I was first out of college, there was no such thing as an internship, you had to beg someone to let you in an IT shop to answer the phone and do other shit, like fixing printers, that on one else wanted to do.

We fed and pampered it and hoped it would fly but a wing broke off on an attempt so I sent it to visit Youth In Asia a few minutes ago. I saw Styx 2 times in Cincy. I think it was 78 and 80. They were the best sounding band I have ever heard live and Shaw was just fucking amazing. I might have my timeline a little off, it’s been a long time, but I remember Castle Walls at the first one and Renegade in the last one.
