Absolutely. If you think your business needs to engage in some offensive or defensive lobbying you can’t just send a trusted employee off to Washington to do the job for you. They wouldn’t have a clue where to start. You hire a lobbying firm. Their interest is soley in maximizing billing hours.
Lobbying is an industry seperate from their customers with their own seperate interests.
It’s also those “trusted” employees in larger companies. That VP of Government Relations and their entire department are swap creatures too. Not just federal, but at the state and local level too. When they move on after a couple of years, they’re just as likely to go back to the regulatory agency or legislative staff as much as a competitor or trade group.
It’s more than just billing hours. They have zero self interest in dismantling the regulatory state that is actively harming their own company.
